My Morning Jacket - Mixed Talented Band
rowena on May 22nd 2008
My Morning Jacket is an American rock band famous for their reverb-heavy sound, their eclectic mix of indie rock, country rock, americana, psychedelic, and jam band styles, and enthusiastic and energetic live shows. The band was created in 1998 in Louisville, Kentucky, and signed with ATO Records four years later.
The band’s name comes from a discarded coat lead singer Jim James found while sifting through the remains of his favorite bar after it burned down. The coat was embroidered with the letters “MMJ” on it.
Singer/songwriter/guitarist Jim James’ bandmates are bassist “Two Tone” Tommy, drummer Patrick Hallahan, guitarist/pedal steel guitarist/saxophonist/vocalist Carl Broemel and keyboardist Bo Koster.
The band is also known for being featured (under the name Ruckus) in the 2005 film Elizabethtown.
Watch My Morning Jacket live at the Lollapalooza with the Chicago Youth Symphony.
